Yet all of these events are related and important to who we are today and what is to come.
Without a background in Judiaism as practiced and the compartmentalized philosophical idioms with which it offers explanation, Antelman's work is a slog of a read. Yet once one is brought up to speed, it is immensely rewarding as something that finally makes sense of history, those 'white areas on the map' now being fully integrated into how we arrived at our contemporary pickle. As all theoretical works of history involving evil must be, there is necessary conjecture involved (about which I wish Dr. Antelman had been more explicit). So although the book is getting five stars, it is because of its value more than its prose.
That value is not just in understanding how we got to this passe, for history is more about understanding the people with whom one is dealing than it is about avoiding 'repeating mistakes of the past.' One is no longer surprised that Ahmadinejad is a Jew. One sees the dotted line between Sabbateans and Sufis in the events of the day. Such ends up prompting a rueful sort of humor, but at least one gets a chuckle out of it, were there not such a terrible portent for horror. At least one comprehends the apparent delight so many ardent Jewish Marxists take in promulgating such immense and ubiquitous stupidity.
